REMEMBER: rape can happen to anyone, man or woman. It’s simple: DON’T rape. No one is asking for it, no one deserves it, it’s up to you to be fucking responsible and sane and in control of your actions and not put others in dangerous or compromising positions that affect them for the rest of THEIR LIVES. If you don’t think it’s serious, WAKE THE FUCK UP. WAKE. THE. FUCK. UP.

My friend Cara verbalized my beliefs. This is important. This is necessary.

I stumbled upon Project Unbreakable's tumblr (TW) this afternoon. I haven't been able to stop scrolling through all of the archived posts. I'm shaking. I look at all of those women (and the occasional man) who were brave enough to share their stories…and it makes me feel ashamed. I'm not that brave. I still believe that my rape isn't as bad, isn't a big enough deal to speak out about. I know my parents still don't believe me. I know the friends I had in college were convinced that I was dragging out my reactions to it for attention. I re-live the shunning of my high school friends from when it happened every day.
Here, where I can be semi-faceless, I can be an advocate. I can admit that it happened. But I don’t know how to be brave when everything I feel tells me that I don’t have it that bad, and I should just deal with it.
